Last night, I watched “The Lucky One.” The movie opens to a small fishing boat meandering it’s way through a winding and fairly narrow channel, as the main character speaks the following monologue:
“You know, the smallest thing can change your life. In the blink of an eye, something happens by chance, when you least expect it, sets you on a course you never planned, into a future you never imagined. Where will it take you? That is the journey of our lives. Our search for the light. But sometimes finding the light means you must pass through the deepest darkness. At least, that’s how it was for me.”
The statement made by the main character during the opening moments of the movie struck me, especially in light of my own life and the path I’ve had to walk through the past several years. The sentiment expressed in this statement also applies to many of God’s mighty ones who have been experiencing a similar season of unforeseen difficulties and seemingly unending challenges.
Hearing those words filled me with hope because light always overcomes the darkness. Ironically, it is the absolute darkest when dawn is about to break. I am starting to see the glint of light on the horizon. And, I am filled with excited anticipation that the Lord has something beyond my wildest dreams just around the next bend.
